Not cool, mom, not cool.

I’m a big believer in the idea that you are only as old as you feel. I pay attention to what’s current, music, clothes, celebrity gossip, sports etc. Partly so I can discuss these things with my kids but mostly just ’cause I’m cool like that.

So imagine my dismay when I text my kids to say have a great day and added a hug emoticon at the end and they both text me back asking “What the heck?” I had no idea what was wrong. Later when we were all at home I asked what the deal was and they both cracked up. “Why would you send us that?” they wanted to know. “Have a great day?” I asked, puzzled. This is where they exchanged glances that clearly said, “You tell her.” “No, you.”
Completely lost now I went and grabbed my phone and reread the text expecting an embarrassing typo. Nope, all good. Now I had to know. ” What are you two talking about?” Finally, with an impressive eye roll my youngest says, “The vagina.” Shocked, I burst out laughing! “I did NOT send you that! Where?” They both whipped out their phones like seasoned gunslingers and shoved them under my nose. “Here! See!” I looked down and to my utter surprise there was indeed what looked like girlie bits constructed from keyboard characters. I quickly realized what on my phone was depicted as a hug emoticon came up on theirs as…..well you know.

That’ll teach me to try and be hip.

  1. Bahahaha, good one Crystal. Thanks for the chuckle. I can totally relate. I always thought I was a hip mom and grandmom, to be told I’m a geek, geesh, I think our definitions have been altered by the next generation. :0)
